Insurance for builders and tradespeople
Most tradespeople need public liability, cover for their tools, and van insurance for business use. If you employ or sub-contract, employers’ liability and contract works cover may also be needed.
Tools left in the van
Many policies only cover tools in a locked van at certain times. Check the overnight rules.
Sub-contractors
Labour-only sub-contractors may count as employees for insurance purposes.
Contract works
Covers the work you are building until it is handed over.
Heat and height
Work with heat, at height or on roofs is rated differently. Describe it accurately.
